On November 20, 2024, Game Lady Doll released their latest Head #28, that surprisingly isn’t just another version of Tifa. Rather, it’s a character that’s equally as iconic: Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters (KOF) series. As one of the original fighting-game waifus (and pioneer of boob physics), Head #28 is a breath of fresh air after endless Tifa heads. But did Game Lady do the scantily-clad kunoichi justice? Well, it’s hard to say since she looks slightly different in every game. From the 2d Fatal Fury (and KOF) games, to the newest KOF XV, her face regularly changed, but always retained a similar anime aesthetic. Personally, I think they captured her essence but the more-realistic approach leaves something to be desired.

Overall, it’s nice to see Game Lady release a new character other than Tifa. While she does resemble Mai Shiranui more-or-less, I think the realistic style somewhat reduces her charm and iconic sex appeal. Without her big, bouncy breasts, brown hair, and signature poses, the photos seem a bit generic (although the outfit’s correct). Maybe the 165cm body, with larger breasts and curves would’ve been a better choice. I guess it comes down to whether you prefer realism or a more faithful re-creation. Still, this is the closest Mai Shiranui doll available (other brands like EXDOLL and Jiusheng only have cosplays of her), and the body can always be changed (although head size can’t).

Is this the beginning of Game Lady’s long-awaited comeback? Are they coming back strong, or was this just a off-one surprise before they return to hibernation? Only time will tell.
